"Too Weird To Live; Too Rare To Die!" - Album Review (2.0)

ever since "Death Of A Bachelor" came out (BEST.ALBUM.FUCKING.EVER) i've been on a P!ATD spree (yes, i'm aware it's been three monts already, sue me... i'm still obesessed, that's how firetrucking good it is), and i decided to give "Too Weird To Live; Too Rare To Die!" a second chance... because last time i listened to it, i pretty much almost killed myself: that's how much i hated it... and, i don't need an excuse! besides, it's Brendon's birthday (?)

i really, really enjoy the cover... not that it matters, but.
hate the haircut, like the suit, love the man.

"This Is Gospel"

i still think special effects on Brendon's voice are totally uncalled for. BUT: the song ain't that bad; piano version is a thousand times better, but the studio version holds its own. i really like the lines "these words are knives and often leave scars" and "don't try to sleep through the end of the world and bury me alive/'cause I won't give up without a fight". to which i didn't pay attention before because i was too mad at the effects on Brendon's voice...

"Miss Jackson"

ou, em, gee, these lyrics! i just love how this girl broke him so bad. i mean, don't get me wrong, if i ever get to meet her (because daydreaming is still for free) i'd punch her in the tits, but... damn, the boy is broken. thank god for Sarah and her beautiful doe eyes for saving him <3

anywho! i said something about the video don't making sense, and i really didn't watch it again, but: who gives a shit if it doesn't make sense, this song's amazing!

"Vegas Lights"

oh, dear, i love these lyrics. this song doesn't sound particularly good on the album, because effects and shit (which by now i've stated several times, i don't like), but live... it's fucking awesome. i mean: "we're swimming with the sharks until we drown" -> I LOVE YOU, BRENDON URIE.

"Girl That You Love"

well, i obviously hated this song in 2013... i'd still do if it weren't Brendon. i mean, it's too electronic for me. lyrics again: i can hear your heart breaking, dude! he needs like twelve tequila shots and a tight hug.

"Nicotine"

i loved it then, i still love it now. this song... man, i'm speechless.

"Girls/Girls/Boys"

by now you should know i'm basically eating my words from the last post about this album; i regret nothing: i kinda like this song; i like the aproach of liking the person for who they are instead of for what their gender is. i said of the video: "i don't give a fuck who he was trying to pay a tribute to, it doesn't make sense with the song at all. and i saw parts of Brendon i really didn't want to.". i kinda still stand by that. i love Brenny to death, but, dude... no.

"Casual Affair"

i like the groove of this song and that high note in "atmospheee~re"... YES, PLEASE. lyric wise is kinda the cool counterpart of "Miss Jackson", i think.

"Far Too Young To Die"

again: waaaaaay too techno for me, or whatever the kids are calling it these days. but it's a cute song, it's a nice listen.

"Collar Full"

it's still the nice dancy song it was in 2013. meaning: i liked it then, i still like it now.

"The End Of All Things"

best. song. ever. well, you know... it's a ballad... with piano and Brendon... and piano... yeah, i love it.

so, overall: this album may not give the best first impression, but give it a chance, there's way more to it than what you first listen to. i'm starting to think maybe i shoulda cut Brendon some slack; or maybe i wasn't quite there yet to understand it, emotionally and shit like that, you know? anyway: if you didn't like this album before, give it a new listen, it's gona surprise you... who knows? you might even end up loving it.

i also said this: "i sincerely miss RyRo's lyrics. they were absolutely majestic. that guy had a gift for writing and he missed his chance for following Jon Fucking Walker out of the band and then getting abandoned by him. goddamn you, Ryan Ross! you should've stuck with Panic! At The Disco ¬¬". and i also still stand by it.

well... the video is just as bad as i thought it'd be. but the song is still amazing. i looooove how Brendon screams at the chorus... :sigh: his voice ♥

anywho! let's go for the track by track review, and then i'll do an overall, which SPOILER ALERT! is basically gonna be me saying how much this album sucks.

"This Is Gospel"

what the hell?! seriously: special effects on Brendon's voice?! completely unnecessary and totally ridiculous! the music reminds me of a Britney Spears bad song that never really got to the top 100 on iTunes. the lyrics don't make much sense at all. it sounds to me like Brendon was aiming for a "Kings & Queens" or "This Is War" kinda lyrics but just couldn't really get them there. 

on top of that: the video is just plain ludicrous.

"Miss Jackson ft. LOLO"

the lyrics are so damn empty. it annoys me. also: LOLO shines for her absence; the part she gets to sing in the song is completely forgettable. again with the special effects on Brendon's voice. i can't hear any real instruments in this song. at all.

then again: the video doesn't make sense at all.

"Vegas Lights"

ok. i'm gonna give it to Brendon. these chorus lyrics kinda make sense with all that's been happening to Spencer (though really sad: i still think it's really stupid and borderline funny). but the music is too electronic. i would've prefer this song to be really quiet, like acoustic. just Brenny and his guitar. it would've sound so much better.

"Girl That You Love"

STUPID FUCKING SPECIAL EFFECTS ON BRENDON'S FUCKING VOICE. you gotta be freaking kidding me, the guy has one of the most beautiful, amazing voices of our generation! if not of all time, and he keeps ruining it with the fucking effects. i hate this song so much. and the lyrics are still empty and lack a story.

"Nicotine"

finally some real instruments! not in the way i want them but... still: real instruments. well, the music still sounds too electric to me, but the melody of the voice is beautiful and it does sound like Panic! At The Disco. FINALLY! i love that Brendon's voice is clean. i love the background vocals. i loooooove that Brendon screams to me when he says: "you're worst than nicotine". music to my ears. kudos, Urie.

"Girls/Girls/Boys"

"girls love girls and boys"? seriously? you gonna talk about bisexuality? really? i'm not even gonna get into the lyrics because they're just plain lame. at least in this song he also used real instruments. the bass riff is actually quite cute.

ugh! we're back to the special effects on his voice. i fucking hate this song. it's slow and the lyrics are all over the place. i kinda like the small riff of the piano at the end, though. cute.

no. no. no. no. again with the effects. again, no real instruments playing in the song. the lyrics are like: meh. ok. you can think he may be talking about everything that happened to Spencer, once again. still: i don't like it.

"Collar Full"

this song starts kinda cute. it sounds more like what i think Panic! should sound like. well, what i recognize as P!ATD. the lyrics are ok. i can't complain much. i wish Brendon's voice sounded a little more clean, though. i think it would've worked so much better for the song. i mean: it's a dancy, somewhat happy, song. it's fine. and it has real instruments in it. that makes me happy (:

"The End Of All Things"

this song is just beautiful. i really, really love it. the lyrics are soft and simple, but they express something  far more complicated than you'd think. and it's just what everybody wants to hear from a loved one. you can either think it was meant for Sarah, or even maybe Spencer. even though it says "we're in love", i mean: when you're in a band together, you can't be just friends. i'm not saying they have some sort of bromance or anything, but... well: if you get the picture, you get it. otherwise, nevermind. i know what i mean. it's a perfect ending to a very awful album, cuz it makes you forget songs like "This Is Gospel"...

so, overall:

i hate the album: except for "Nicotine" and "The End Of All Things". "Collar Full" is kind of in a limbo to me. cuz i've got nothing against it, yet i don't love it. but yeah, the album is way too electronic and it sounds nothing like something Panic! At The Disco would do. it feels as if Brendon didn't take enough time to really work on it. or maybe they were being pressured by the label to release an album right away, and Brendon didn't want Spencer to just stop taking care of himself to write an album, so he put all that weight on his shoulders and... well: "Too Weird To Live Too Rare To Die" happened.
i love "Vices & Virtues". i love everything about it. the music, the lyrics. even the artwork. but i sincerely miss RyRo's lyrics. they were absolutely majestic. that guy had a gift for writing and he missed his chance for following Jon fucking Walker out of the band and then being abandoned by him. goddamn you, Ryan Ross! you should've stuck with Panic! At The Disco ¬¬
