five years...

it feels like a lifetime ago, though. i don't know who i'd be if it weren't for My Chemical Romance. this band has helped me so much through the years. i'm literally blasting off all their albums as i write this. it feels really good.

(i've told this story too many times before) i remember the first time i've listened to them, a friend introduced them to me, she showed me the music video for "Helena" and i remember thinking "i'm scared, who the fuck are these guys?". like, i instantly loved the music, but their looks were just... wow. i was thirteen years old and the only other contact with "heavy" music that i'd had was Linkin Park. and let's be honest, compared to the five guys rocking a church, dancing and singing in front of an open coffin with a dead lady inside, Linkin Park seemed pretty average. looks-wise, at least. of course, my 13-year-old self didn't have depression, so she didn't understand the meaning behind Linkin Park's lyrics, but that's for another post to talk about.

back to MCR... anyways, "Helena". i thought they were so weird, but then she showed me the music video for "I'm Not OK (I Promise)" (school version), and i was in love. oh my god, so awesome. i loved everything about it, the song, the lighting, the idea (little did i know Marc Webb was about to become one of my favorite music video directors of all time), everything about that music video was perfect.

then i started digging more into their music, and as i got progressively more into MCR, my friend started disliking them. i think it was because it was like 'her thing' or whatever, and she thought that since i loved them, it wasn't that special anymore? or at least that's how she acted, i think she pretended not to be in love with them in front of me but secretly still loved them to death. they were a pretty important band for her. i mean, we were thirteen, we were kids. you do stupid things when you're a kid. things that make you go "why did i do that? so stupid!".

i remember being (i shit you not) scared of their first album and the last tracks of "Three Cheers...", because they talked about death and murder and i didn't really get the meaning behind the metaphors; once i did was when i fell in love with song writing and story telling, and fucking Gerard way because he's so amazing at both. he's still my favorite lyricist. him and Ryan Ross (ex-Panic! At The Disco). i take my hat off. geniuses.

when i first bought the "Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge" CD, i was afraid to tell my mom because i thought she'd think i'm crazy or something because of the album cover. i literally hid it from her. hahaha. i was such a weird kid... i laugh now because when i put MCR on, my mom kinda knows the songs and sings along. my dad loves "The Black Parade" cuz it has a Queen vibe. i've broken my family. also: Rob Cavallo, man. MCR also introduced me to one of my favorite music producers. that fucking genius! when i heard Paramore was working with him for their third album (that turned out to be "Brand New Eyes"), i remember thinking "this is gonna be incredible". and it fucking was. ah, what a talented man. Howard Benson, too. fucking geniuses, goddamnit.

there isn't a song that MCR put out that i don't like. i love everything they've ever done. but if i had to pick a favourite album, it has to be "Conventional Weapons". even if it's not an album. just the idea of it being something secret that it was never supposed to see the light of day and then Frankie just insisting on publishing it. such raw, fed up songs. i mean, you can hear it in the music, you can listen to it in the lyrics, they were so fucking tired. every song is a statement of "if this what you want? here you go, shove it up your ass, see if i give a shit!". i love it. but the best thing about "CW" is that it wasn't the fourth album. i'm pretty sure that if they went through with it instead of putting a stop, talking some time and moving into writing "Danger Days...", there would've never been a "Danger Days...". and "Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys" is such a gem! it's a very good put together album. that's how clasic pop music is made, kids! fucks sake... so good.

i guess at the end of the day, even if they're "dead", i'm happy i got to know them and love them. i'm grateful that they're still there for me when i need them. and i'm grateful that i got to see them live at least once. because they were an act to see live. it only makes me sad that they had something very special going on and they gave up on it because it all was too much. i still respect them loads, and i'm secretely hoping they get back together. shush! let me dream.

in the meantime, i'm gonna keep blasting off all the wonderful songs they already blessed us with.

see ya later, killjoys ;)

it was a good run.

siguieron con "My Way Home Is Through You" y tengo que admitir que me sorprendió en el momento y me sorprendió revivirlo ahora, porque lo había olvidado por completo. pero al releer la lista de canciones que escribí hace 10 años ya (ni bien llegué del recital) trajo todos los recuerdos de nuevo. otra cosa que voy a admitir es que la entendí recién ahora la canción esa. la letra, digo. fucking Gerard. deep as shit. lo odio y lo amo a la vez, la puta madre. o sea: do you wanna hold my hand?/'could you sign this photograph/'Ccuse i'm your biggest fan/would you leave me lying here?'//we're not here to pay a compliment/or sing about the government/oxycontin genocide/adolescent suicide/i'll give you my sincerity/don't give a fuck about a Kennedy/here's what i've got to say//can't find my way home/but it's through you and i know/what i'd do just to get back in her arms. me siento un poquito atacada, pero igual... lo banco.
"Mama" creo que fue la canción más divertida de la historia. acá creo que fue cuando Gerard arrancó con el "Manos...", para que las moviéramos de arriba a abajo. y no faltó el llanto/risa del final. me acuerdo que con mi hermana nos miramos al final y gritamos "a surprise! for me?! you shouldn't have", que era lo que decía Gerard cuando estaban abriendo para Linkin Park en su gira ("Project Revolution"). so raise your glass high/for tomorrow we die/and return from the ashes you call.
papá, después se vino "House of Wolves". qué-puto-temazo. and as the blood runs down the walls/you see me creeping up these halls/i've been a bad motherfucker/tell your sister i'm another/go! go! go!. ese solo de Ray al final, tocado sin esfuerzo y a la perfección. todo mi amor es tuyo, Ray "Mastermind" Toro. todo.
All Your Friends". qué buen tema, ¡dios! 'cause we all wanna party when the funeral ends/and we all get together when we bury our friends/it's been ten fucking years since i've been seeing your face 'round here/and you're walking away, and i will drown in the fear.. qué bizarro sería si se juntan en 2023 y ponen este tema, ¿no? hahaha. estas cosas se me ocurren a mí nada más. i was killing before killing was cool. genio, ¿no te digo?
"Only mis hermanos", aclaró. muchas pibas pelaron buzos igual. estuvo bueno. y así, sin más, tocaron "You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison". *clap* *clap* *clap*.
"You guys are one of the best fucking audiences we've ever had, thank you so much!" Life On The Murder Scene". re manijas. qué lindos recuerdos.

so long and good night,
so long... and good night.

"Thank You For The Venom" (My Chemical Romance FanFic) - Chapter 34

Ok. So, this fanfic is not mine. It's a fic I found a few years ago (like five or four years ago) in Quizilla® -I mean, back when Quizilla was quizilla.com and not .teenick.com-. It was written by user AuroraMist, who took it down, and I don't know why.
She wrote a lot of amazing fan fictions; she's a hell of a writer. But this is definitely my favourite from her, and it is for sure the best My Chemical Romance fan fiction I've ever read. And I've read quite a few. So, I thought I'd share it -again- with the World. Cuz it's awesome, and it deserves to be read.
This is the last chapter she uploaded. I don't know if it was meant to end like it does, but... it is all there is. Enjoy.

"Is he okay with it?" I asked Frank at 11:30 that same night, struggling with the lock on a suitcase. We didn't have any lights on and had to whisper so as not to wake Mikey who we wanted to remain oblivious and unconscious. We'd managed to elude everyone to the fact that we were leaving. No one had known until a little while ago, thanks to Frank's clumsiness, Frank had finished packing a while ago and, since returning from the kitchen, had been leaning against the doorframe watching me, with folded arms across his chest and blank expression, for almost twenty minutes without offering any help.

"No," he answered, scratching his chin and rolling his eyes. "It's Gerard, what do you expect?"

Rubbing my hands over my face and stepping away from the stubborn piece of luggage, which sat there innocently, lid open three inches, I laughed. "A police lined up waiting outside and on the roof to stop us."

"You'd better not say that too loudly or he'll hear and actually do it. Feeding Gerard’s ideas, is not good."

"Do you think," I started while returning to my packing, every word coming out as a grunt, "he'll forcibly prevent us from leaving or should we risk it? Charge our way out, suitcases up to shield faces, and hope for the best? Oh for fuck's sake! You little piece of fucking shit - gah, Frank, come over here. Sit."

"Way to make me feel like a dog," he sighed but did as he was told nonetheless.

"You're hardly complaining," I grunted.

"Yeah, well, you scare me sometimes."

I scoffed but did not reply as the suitcase finally cooperating distracted me. After jumping backwards with arms raised in triumph, I roughly shoved Frank off to pick it up, exclaiming, "Yes, I'm a genius!"

"You? I did all the work."

"What're you getting at with this? Because I am not paying you for putting your ass on my luggage-"

"God, shut up," Frank hissed, "or you'll wake Mikey up and we'll never get out of here. Come on, we have to try placate Gerard one more time or charge through the police line up, suitcases drawn. Your choice."

When pouting didn't work and he refused to climb through our bedroom window, I led him into the kitchen where Gerard was yawning into a cup of either coffee or, well it was Gerard so, coffee and sitting on a counter top, swinging his legs. "Gerard-" I started cautiously when he didn't look up at us.

"No," he answered in a tired voice, taking a sip of his drink. I frowned.

"What do you mean 'no'?"

"It's a refusal."

"I know what it is but that's bullshit. Why?"

"I don't want you to. I want you to get married in Jersey where I can be best man and you're wed by a proper priest, not Elvis. So, you see, you can absolutely not leave."

Frank's lip twitched and he tried. "Gerard-"

"No."

"Gerard-"

"Dipshit," he cut off my fiancée, "you wake me up at," he paused to check his watch which apparently wasn't working as he then turned around to look at the clock on the wall, "nearly midnight by trampling on my head-"

I smirked and Frank looked indignant. "I didn't know you were sleeping on my floor!"

"Well a little warning before you kick my head in would be nice. Now, I would like us all to go to bed and sleep into a rational frame of mind. One in which good decisions are made and you will both see things from my point of view, a happy place where eloping is frowned upon. Sleep is good, so off you go to bed and we will talk about this again in the morning."

"No."

Gerard looked from me to Frank numerous times. "What do you mean 'no'?! You can't do this, you have to get married properly!"

I kissed his cheek as Frank opened the door for us to leave. "We'll send you a postcard."

Gerard grabbed my wrist and hooked his other arm around Frank's neck as we started to move. "No, I don't want a postcard, I want you to stay put! You're making a big mistake, you'll regret it for the rest of your lives, you're not being sensible - just fucking listen to me."

I sighed while trying to inconspicuously pry off his fingers but they were holding on firmly. "Gerard-" I paused to violently try to shake him off but he's a stubborn boy "-we're going to get married whether it be here or in Vegas, what does it matter?"

He reluctantly loosened his hold and we immediately, and in unison, stepped a safe distance away. "I don't know ... It's just so much more like a real wedding when there are guests, tuxes and dresses, annoying mothers and a reception - you know, the works. Doing it in Las Vegas is just so trashy." He paused, looking down at his swinging feet. "And ... besides, I ... really wanted to be there for you guys."

I bit my lip. "Gerard, you are here for us and not being there won't change that. That's exactly why we're doing this. We love you all but there's just too much pressure, and there shouldn't be. It's our wedding, you know. And neither of us want a really big fancy one with lots of fuss so this is just better."

"I kind of figured." He looked from Frank's face to mine, frowning, before sighing loudly. "Okay, if it's what you both want, I'm not going to stop you. Besides, going by this morning, I'm guessing you just want to get it over with so you can go on your honeymoon," he added, causing Frank to roll his eyes and me to blush bright red.

Frank and I took turns hugging him goodbye and we were out of the door when I turned back. "Wait!" Frank made an impatient noise and looked at the ceiling but let me continue. "Ray's not out of hospital yet, we can't just leave him while he's sick without even an explanation of 'we're getting married in Vegas, see you later - Oh, almost forgot, get better'."

"I'll explain everything, don't worry about it," Gerard assured me. "Besides, he seemed fine when we saw him today - er," he looked at the clock again, "yesterday. He'll probably be free to go tomor- today, I mean. God, I need sleep," he added, rubbing his face furiously.

I smiled as I remembered how perky and eager to leave the hospital Ray had been when we'd visited. "Okay, he'll be fine," I repeated to myself as we turned again to leave after Frank had finished attacking Gerard with another hug. "Bye Gee."

"Bye! Take lots of photos and, I swear to God, if you do one of those stupid, lame and tacky themed-weddings I will kick both of your skinny asses!"

This time we'd only gotten a few steps down the hallway before Gerard came out, looking weary and telling us that there was something we'd probably like to hear before he led us back into Frank's apartment.

"Don't give me that look, dipshit-"

"Well then quit trying to stop us from leaving," Frank shot back at Gerard.

"I swear I'm not. And if you twats actually checked your messages on the answering machine every once in a while I wouldn't have had to call you back in." Once he'd finished defending himself he pressed the 'play' button before jumping back onto the counter beside the machine.

"You have 1 unread message.

Message 1, 8:01 a.m.

'Hello Carrie'," Came my mother's voice and I opened my mouth to reply but Frank shook his head. He knows me too well, '"and, um, Frank I guess. If you're listening too. On that note, hello to all the other people you hang around with and know I don't approve of. I suppose they'll be there aswell since they always are and you refuse to take my advice of telling them to find someone else to mooch off of. You're getting married, you can't keep letting four un-housetrained men'-" Mom paused to listen to someone on her end and we heard the muffled sounds of an argument for nearly a minute "'Oh alright, but really it's what's best for her' ... 'She's our daughter, John, I have every right' ... 'Fine, fine. Anyway, Carrie, back to the reason I called. I have taken the responsibility- you're welcome, by the way- of arranging your bachelorette party since you probably haven't even thought of it, despite there being just barely enough time for one now since you're hardly an efficient planner for events such as weddings' ... 'I am not 'nagging her', I am simply reminding her that this is important - and that she has pretty much shifted all responsibility and work involved onto other people- that's all' ... 'Oh, I am not. I'm sorry about that, Carrie, your father has been rather moody lately. Anyway, you have to call me so I can tell you what I've arranged. I'm not happy that you hardly call anymore - I am your mother and I must know what is going on at all times. So you will call me as soon as you get this message and, from now on, I will be calling every day - if you can't muster the decency to keep in contact with the woman you lived inside of for nine months and who bravely pushed you out' ... 'I am not. Just leave me alone' ... 'No, go read your newspaper somewhere else please' ... 'Please! ... Thank you. Anyway, Carrie, the point is that I want this wedding to be a success, as I am sure you do too. So, we will be talking more regularly. Okay, I have to go. Call me back soon.'

End of mess-"

Beep. Gerard looked up at Frank and I, after deleting the message, and I stared back, tapping my fingers on my chin.

"Gerard, the next time she calls can you please give her - Hold on, I'll get a pen and write it down-" After watching me search around for a pen frantically, Frank calmly reached behind Gerard's head and retrieved a pencil from the shelf there to hand to me "-Oh, thank you. Gerard, can you give her this - my cell number- and tell her that we are more likely to be able to talk if she uses this number." I placed the pencil down after scribbling down the number and held out the piece of paper for Gerard.

He looked down at it and then up at me. "Okay, will do. But what do I say to explain when she does call here?"

"I work," I said, trying to keep the indignation in my voice to a minimum,

"But knowing dear old Hannah she'll try the apartment numerous times even after I give her your cell. You know, because she doesn't like or trust me and hates that I 'mooch' off of you and Frank."

"Just say anything. Rambling usually makes her hang up; try that."

Gerard nodded and I quickly said 'bye' one more time just in case Frank remembered Madonna and held us up further. Gerard ushered us out and, as he closed the door on our backs, I turned to Frank and hoped I was conveying my nervousness well through the look I sent him. "We're going to elope."

He stopped walking, causing me to do the same and look around at him. A grin broke out across his face as he stopped immediately in front of me, placing his arms around my waist. I smirked, remembering what Gerard had interrupted earlier, and Frank must have been thinking along the same lines because his expression mirrored mine.

I pulled his face down and kissed him. He kissed back briefly before pulling away and resting his forehead against mine in one of those sickly-sweet moments single people always gag at.

"You sure you want to do this, Carrie?"

"Yeah."

He kissed me again and then stepped back, slinging an arm across my shoulder as we started walking again. "Okay."

"Thank You For The Venom" (My Chemical Romance FanFic) - Chapter 33

For a decision we made all of a sudden, over something Frank had mentioned in no intention other than a passing comment, a lot had to be decided and a lot had to be done... And there was not a lot to be said about the 'effort' we were putting into it. So far the only thing he and I had discussed, since the decision to elope, was agreeing to not tell anyone else about this. We could be completely wrong but the reasoning behind keeping the plan quiet was that the boys, Gerard and Mikey specifically, wouldn't be happy with us going off to elope instead of having a 'proper' wedding. We'd all made pretty big plans for the wedding and they were excited for it, not just for the important roles we'd given them, but just to be able to witness it. We knew they'd be really disappointed if they found out there was not going to be a way they could be there with us. Knowing Gerard, if they knew, we'd not be able to make it out of the apartment door.

"Frank?"

"Mmm?"

It was a while later and we'd moved into the kitchen, leaning against benches opposite from each other but not looking at one another.

"Want a coffee?"

"Yes please." He came out of his stupor, moving his eyes slowly from the window facing into the window, whose curtains were drawn shut, of the office building next door to my face, lips lifting in a smile. I pushed myself off from the bench, got the milk from the fridge and shuffled over to the kettle to get to work. As I walked past him, Frank lightly touched my hand. "Oh! Gerard and Bob will no doubt be here any time soon so making them one too would, uh, be a good idea. You know how Gerard thinks he has the right to act like he lives here too."

I smirked and nodded, pulling two more coffee mugs off of the shelf, knowing Frank was right. Gerard had always acted like the apartment was his own and not accommodating him this early in the morning, with his caffeine levels low and his moodiness almost a guarantee, was pretty much asking for trouble. Black, no sugar for Frank ... White, one sugar for me and Bob ... White and three sugars for Gerard ...

I turned to face Frank again after finishing the combinations and while waiting for the kettle to come to a boil. I arched a brow and he lifted both his in question.

"Are we going to talk any more about what we've been avoiding?" I asked him finally, tired of only our eyebrows conversing.

"I've not been avoiding it. Have you been avoiding it?"

"No. I've just been waiting for it to just, you know, come up into conversation."

"So you’re asking if we're going to talk about it some more is it coming up into conversation?"

"Well I thought you were avoiding it!"

He raised his eyebrows again and said infuriatingly, "I wasn't avoiding it."

"Well, neither was I."

"I gathered that some time after you forced it to 'come up into conversation'."

"There was no forcing, I - Gah, Frank!"

He started laughing. "I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. You're just too easy at this time of morning."

I glared playfully at him and mumbled half-hearted obscenities under my breath. "So ..." I paused and coughed. "We're eloping pretty soon, huh?"

"Yep."

"You're going to make this as difficult as if possibly could be for me, aren't you, Iero?" He smirked and nodded. "So, what? You have no idea you'd like to input?"

"Not as such but I guess we'd better set down a few basic details. For instance: mode of transport?"

I chewed on the inside of my lip. I knew that he had a slight fear - not a phobia of but he was definitely a little afraid- of flying but getting to Las Vegas from Jersey by driving was going to be no small feat. Frank saw the contemplative look on my face as I argued with myself internally and sighed, "You want to fly, don't you?"

"Well... yes, I do. But you'd rather drive?"

"I'm sorry."

I continued chewing on my lip. "Don't be." I turned again to fill the mugs with hot water, as the kettle had just begun to whistle, before continuing, "How hard can driving across all those states be, anyway?"

"Well," Frank said hesitantly, "I actually kind of thought it would be, er, fun."

I snorted while stirring the four coffees. "'Fun', Frank? It'll take ages and it'll just be me and you, so -"

"Mmhm, That's exactly why I want to travel by car. Because it'll just be us two and ... yeah" He looked up for my reaction but I was keeping my expression blank so that he would continue "It's just we'll be keeping married and all... And, its just sinking in that it really is for real, so some 'us time' would probably good for us, yeah?"

I smiled at the underlying sweetness of his reasoning and stated softly, "Okay, we can go by car."

He moved closer towards me, the smile stretching across his face threatening to split his head in two. "Yeah?" I nodded and he stopped in front of me, reaching behind me to rest his hands on the bench at my back. I was caught in between it and him. "So... you want some 'us time' too?"

I gripped his lower arms but he moved them to wrap around my waist instead so I replaced my hands lightly on his shoulders. "Maybe ..."

I trailed off and by now I was refusing to look anywhere but his lips.

"But maybe, first, we should ... um, we sh-should ..." Look away and form proper and complete sentences, goddammit! "We should probably finish making the plans for the, erm, the elopement?"

His fingertips travelled down my sides and then over my arms. He stopped at the inside of my elbow and gave it the barest of caresses. I shuddered and wondered how he knew that touching there would bring about that kind of reaction. Hell, I didn't even know that. When I opened my eyes again, he was smirking at the obvious effect he had on me. "Sorry but what was that, Carrie? I couldn't quite make it out with all that stuttering."

He bent his head down to my neck, stopping before his lips made contact with my skin, and blew where my neck met shoulder. I gripped his shoulders harder and dug my fingernails into his skin through the fabric of his shirt.

"Um ..." I tried to form a coherent sentence in reply and resolved to try harder when seeing the satisfied smirk he wore after my first try at a response, "God, stop touching me like that! I can't even think!"

My waist was released again as he moved his hands up to stroke along my jaw. My eyelids fluttered closed in anticipation when I felt his fingertips brush against my lips but then he stopped until I opened my eyes again. "Ah, I thought you wanted some 'us time'? But I can't touch you?" He pretended to look confused and started to slowly peel his body weight off of mine. I quickly grabbed his hips and pulled them back against mine. He moaned deep in his throat so that I only caught the slightest of sounds coming from his hung open mouth and instinctively rocked his hips against my own. He quickly recovered, looking down at me and chuckling. "But you just said that I couldn't touch you-"

Cutting him off in the most effective way, I pulled his face roughly down to mine, with hands firmly on either side of his face, and covered his lips, which I'd been eyeing, with mine. His hands were left in mid-air, in the space next to my face, until he dropped them down to his sides once more. When he started to kiss back and I was sure he wouldn't move, I released my hands from their clasp at the back of his neck and grabbed his hands. I guided them to the bottom of my shirt, making his thumbs slip under and touch the skin there. He groaned and accidentally bit my bottom lip. He pulled back a little, looking unsure, but I smiled back to reassure him that I didn't mind the biting. In fact, I actually liked it.

Answering his previously cut off question, I told him, "I do want some us time, right now."

Frank brought us back into the kiss, immediately slipping his tongue into my mouth as my lips had been parted slightly. All of a sudden, things had slowed back down. As our tongues brushed once, twice and laid still before continuing, my hands, still over his, directed him to pull my shirt over my head. His lips broke away from mine to move down my neck, along my clavicle and finally to the swell of my breasts above the pink bra I wore.

He smiled against my flesh as I made pleased noises and I smiled too, but at his cockiness. His face made it's way back to mine, kissing me again, Harder and rougher this time, making me respond by pressing myself completely and suggestively against him, thinking about how long I'd been wanting this. Frank broke the kiss and threw back his head, moaning loudly, due to the friction our bodies were creating, which only served to turn me on anymore. I took the opportunity to start kissing along his neck and, as I worked over his throat and started to nip at his shoulder, his hands moved around to unlatch my bra.

As his fingers were fumbling, a door somewhere else in the apartment slammed open, and we jumped apart. Guiltily, I attempted to smooth down my hair and, the smirk no longer in place, Frank handed me my shirt back. When Gerard entered, without Bob, I had redressed even if my shirt was inside out and back to front.

"Sorry for coming over so early, my pretties. I just-" He stopped as he stepped fully into the kitchen and looked us over. We were both flushed, had messed up hair, crumpled clothes and were avoiding looking at each other in fear of giving anything away. Although our appearances could have been explained by just waking up and getting out of bed, I could see Gerard's brain ticking over and was convinced he knew what he'd interrupted. Looking back and forth between Frank and I, Gerard started again, slowly, "Um ... hi?"

"Hi!" Frank replied too brightly, causing me to wince and then glare at him. But I was only glaring at his back as he'd turned. He faced our way again, this time with Gerard's pre-made coffee to offer him. "Coffee?"

The suspicious look on our friend's face slipped away as he moved forward to gratefully accept the mug. "Oh, thank you! I knew you'd have one ready for me, thank you! You would NOT believe the morning I've had," He paused, smiled affectionately at the coffee and then took a sip. "ARGH!!" He shouted at the top of his voice, spitting the liquid back into the mug. He looked up at us with, what I'm sure was, the most disgusted and accusatory look he could manage. "What are you trying to do?! Make me want to give up caffeine?! That - that - 'coffee' is cold and has no sugar in it!"

"It does have sugar!" I defended quickly but took the mug off him anyway and threw its contents down the sink. "I just may have not stirred it all that well as I was distracted."

Gerard narrowed his eyes. "What about the reason it’s so fucking cold?!" Frank and I exchanged a look as we thought of what excuse could possibly work. Gerard caught this and then grinned widely. "OH!" When Frank and I started to protest his [correct] assumption, he flailed his hands around wildly, the grin still on his face. "No, no, it's okay. I get it, no need to explain."

I looked down at my feet. "We didn't do t-"

"Did I interrupt?" He interrupted, looking aghast.

"Kinda," Frank answered, shrugging, "Yeah."

"Oh man, I am so sorry," Gerard said sincerely after looking from me to Frank. "I just came around to suggest we all go around to the hospital to see how Ray's going - Bob's already there - but I can leave. Yeah, I'll just go and you can pretend I never came in and continue from which ever part it was that you left off."

I blushed furiously and covered my face with my hands.

Frank punched Gerard's shoulder. "Dude, shut up. Carrie, what do you think?" I peered through my fingers at them both, still embarrassed. "Want to go see Ray?"

I took away my hands and nodded. "Yeah, I'll just go get dressed."

He scratched the back of his head, looking away from me but desperately not in the smirking Gerard's direction. "Yeah, I'll just, you know, wait out here. You go get, um, dressed and I'll wait out here."

I raised my eyebrows and said quietly, "You're just making it awkward, you do realize that, right?"

"Actually, I'm trying not to." He looked over his shoulder and saw Gerard, now sitting in a chair at the table, watching us amusedly and with a hugely arrogant smirk on his face. "Oh God."

"Thank You For The Venom" (My Chemical Romance FanFic) - Chapter 32

32

"How many grams would you like, ma'am?" The overweight man with the ginger walrus moustache asked me, holding the biggest knife I have ever seen in his left hand.

I stared at him, trying to figure out both how many grams I'd need to make dinner for nine people and how many years it had taken him to grow such an interesting facial hair pattern. God, I hope Frank wasn't serious last night when he said he wants to grow one. I swear I'll kill him if he does. Awful things... Shit, the dinner. Meant to be cooking for people I like. People I like which, I guess, means I can't just pass of anything as edible. Have to keep them around, might need them in the future. Maybe-

"Ma'am?" The butcher with the orange fur on his top lip pressed, slowly waving a hand in front of my face. "How many grams?" He paused after every single word as if I needed five seconds to figure out what each one meant.

Stuck up asshole. Just because I don't know how much bacon to buy to make dinner for eight people. Would have been nine but Frank refused to stop being a vegetarian for tonight.

I bit my lip and squinted at the scales. "Um .. 2000?"

His ginger furry eyebrows rose. "That would be two kilograms?"

"I know that," I snapped and then hesitated at the incredulous look he had on his face. Is two kilos too much? "Um ... Look. Sorry to bother you and further hold up the," I turned to look over my shoulder and winced as I looked back at the butcher, "twelve people waiting behind me, but I need your help. I'm a shit cook but, somehow, I got roped into cooking for, like, nine people and I have no idea where to start. My parents are coming and so is my fiancée's mother so I have to make something edible. So, to-"

"Lady, I don't need your life story. Just tell me how much bacon you want."

My face fell. I was going to ask him how much bacon I would need to feed eight people. Obviously that wouldn't be a good idea; you know, judging by his expression and tone of voice. "Um. Just two kilos, please."

He weighed out the bacon, wrapped it up and then passed it over the counter towards me. "That'll be $29.90."

I stared at him, with my jaw dropped, and then at the price sticker. Sure enough, it read to amount to $29.90. For diced pig pieces for fuck's sake. "Fucking expensive animal," I mumbled as I paid.

After I'd placed the package into my shopping basket, I entered the nearest super market. Now what do I need? I wondered as I walked down the aisles, staring at the shelves and very aware that I wasn't even sure what I'd be making yet.

I'd arrived home, with five bags of groceries and $143 less than I'd left with, to find a message from Gerard informing me that he was in the emergency room and that I'd 'better call him'. I stared at the machine after the message was finished playing. Is that all the explanation I get? Bloody Gerard.

After finding the piece of paper which had his cell number scrawled on it, I rang Gerard, who answered with, "Carrie, finally! Where have you been?"

"What? What about you?! You're supposed to be at the signing, making fans happy. Why are you at the hospital?"

"Ray collapsed."

"What?" I shrieked. "Is he okay? Oh my God, does he-"

"Carrie, calm down. He's been vomiting a whole lot and he had to have some procedure which I can't pronounce performed-"

"But is he alright?"

"He has viral meningitis and has to stay in overnight, maybe more, as a precaution."

"Is he-"

"He's much better than he was, yeah."

I pressed the palm of my hand, which wasn't holding the phone, to my forehead and tried to think. "If I make it quick, I could probably make it down to hospital and then come back in time to finish dinner. Oh fuck, I haven't even started dinner. I have to make a three course meal and I have no idea where to start. If I come and see Ray then I wouldn't have the time to make dessert but they can go without. I mean, Ray's-"

"Carrie, whoa. It's five o'clock, your dinner thing starts at seven thirty. You don't have time to visit Ray tonight but I'm staying with him for as long as I can so it's fine. You can see him tomorrow."

Breathe in, breathe out... "Gerard, I love you. You wouldn't happen to know how to make Sformato di Tagiatelle Verdi, would you?"

"Uh, er - what?"

"Green Pasta Soufflé. It's my Mom's favourite and it's one of the only recipes I can make with meat and without it - since, you know, Frank's a difficult vegetarian little shit."

"No. My talent in the kitchen extends to the knowledge of being able to make fried rice, you should know that. Why are you making something you don't know how to-"

"I told you, it's Mom's favourite."

"Well, why don't you call her and ask for the recipe?"

"Because she tried to teach me how to once and I didn't pay attention but now, apparently or at least according to Mom, I know how. She'd kill me if I asked her because she thinks I cook it all the time."

"I love you, Carrie, I really do, but you are an idiot. Why did you agree to cook in the first place if you're so bad at it?"

"Because Frank's out until seven o'clock. I can't disappoint them-" I paused when hearing a beeping noise. "Is that your phone or mine?"

"What?"

"Must be mine. I've got another call, wait a minute." I pressed the 'hold' button. "Hello?"

"Carrie?"

"Daisy?"

"Carrie, guess what? I'm in New Jersey! Josh and I just came out because his sister, Megan, has a baby - a girl. They're going to call it Emily; I have to talk them out of it."

"You're in Jersey? Ahh! We have to catch up-"

"Exactly what I was thinking. Josh is at the hospital or out buying chocolate or flowers - I don't know - and I'm stuck at his sister's place, bored as hell. What're you doing tonight? Let's go out, I-"

"Actually I'm having, um, a 'dinner party' in my apartment tonight so-"

"Oh okay. Same apartment as last time I visited?"

"Yeah."

"What time?"

"Seven thirty."

"Okay, I'll bring the wine. See you there."

Oh shit. "No Daisy - Daisy! I didn't mean - Oh fuck it, she hung up." I took Gerard off hold, raising my eyebrows when hearing him humming the Gilligan's Island theme song. "Gee, help me."

"Why, what's happened?"

"I have an extra dinner guest and - just, ugh. Tonight is going to be a failure."

"Don't think like that or it will be. Go into Frank's apartment and check the cupboard above the shelf where the sugar and flour is. In there will be Mikey's collection of recipe books, see if you can find that green thing in there. I have to go, Ray's woken up. Good luck Carrie-bear."

"No Gerard, I need you! Don't you hang up on me too!" Gah, he hung up. Here I was talking to no one.

Scowling, I set the phone down and looked at the clock on the oven, realizing I had hardly enough time to make all three courses and the Havana almond drink Frank said his mom loves.

After pulling out the recipe books I'd found the drinks, hors-d'Oeures and dessert recipes in, I hurried over to Frank's where I found those meal-idea cards that supermarkets all displayed, one thankfully having the right recipe I needed for the main course. By the time I was done burning the bacon, I had finished off two glasses of red wine and was coming to the conclusion that the chicory stew was not meant to be black and that using icing sugar instead of flour, finely chopped cabbage instead of parsley and that shaving my legs while I was meant to be watching the stew, so it didn't burn, wasn't a good idea really.

And, to top it all off, there was a thick smoke filling the air in my kitchen and a splatter of white gunk all over three of the bench tops from where I'd forgotten to put the lid on the blender.

"Carrie, are you in here? I went to mine but you weren't there and I-" Mikey came into the kitchen and started coughing. "God, what is that smell? It's putrid-"

I glared at him. "It's what dinner smells like, thank you."

He wandered over to the stove, as I watched from my place at the table, and leant over to look at the pot of stew. "Ah, well. Um, don't worry about it Carrie. I'm sure it's not too bad-"

"Mikey, it looks like charcoal! Can you please pass me that wine bottle, I think I need another glass."

"No, no, no Carrie. Once we scrape off the top layer, it'll be fine and look edible. You'll see."

I rolled my eyes at him but smiled nonetheless. "You're sweet."

"What do you have left to do?"

"Desserts and drinks. I think I don't have enough time to make them so we'll have to all go thirsty while surviving on charcoal and burnt bacon. Can you please pass me that wine bottle, I still think I need another glass."

"You go get dressed and I'll make the drinks. Then, when you're not wearing something with white shit all over it, we'll both make the desserts."

I stood and walked into my bedroom to search for something appropriate for the night. I remembered Mom telling me to always wear a skirt or dress when dining with company and knew she'd sure as hell have a cow over it if I didn't, so I dug around until I unearthed a black skirt. It had a chocolate stain on the front but I covered that with the white blouse I decided to also wear. I fastened the last button and slid my feet into a pair of ridiculously strappy shoes before straightening up and exhaling slowly.

That's it, calm down. Inhale, exhale. I turned to look in the full length mirror in the corner and cringed. You look awful. When was the last time you even brushed your goddamn hair?!

Moving quickly so that Mikey didn't feel obligated to do too much without me, I shuffled into the bathroom so I could plug in my ceramic straightener and try to do something about my appearance. While waiting for the iron to heat up, I quickly applied some eyeliner, concealer for the bags under my eyes and some very scarce bronzer to try to liven up my sallow complexion. I looked up at the cabinet mirror hopefully after clearing up the cosmetics but frowned. Gah, it's no use. I still look like I've been locked up in solitary confinement for three years, But ,I suppose, it's as good as it'll get, I thought, shrugging. After spending fifteen minutes taming all the layers my head of hair consisted of, unplugging the straightener and storing it away, I re-entered the kitchen to find that Mikey had made enough of the Havana almond drink for twenty people and was in the process of serving it all into tall glasses. I squeaked to alert him of my presence and he looked up, alarmed, pushing his glasses up his nose again.

"What, what's wrong?" He asked nervously. "I swear I followed the recipe exactly-"

"No, not that. They're perfect, thank you!" I drew him into a hug of appreciation but he stiffened uncomfortably and then pulled away quickly, a red tint coloring his cheeks.

"You're welcome. Now we have to make the," he looked at the recipe book for desserts and the title of the page I had it opened to, "caramel custards. They don't sound as if they're going to be too hard to make."

Thankfully, they weren't as difficult as the first two courses were but I'm pretty sure that was only because now I had Mikey's help. We were still cleaning up my mess from the earlier blending incident when there was a knock on my apartment door. Mikey and I looked at the oven clock to see it was seven twenty p.m.; it was probably Frank (late, as usual). When I glanced back at Mikey he nodded for me to go ahead and answer whoever it was.

"Frank?" I asked as I opened the door only to be pounced upon by someone who was most certainly not my fiancée.

"No but hopefully I'll get to finally meet him tonight," Daisy answered as she released me and held me at arm's length. "Damn, Carrie, look at you. You got skinnier."

"Please, save the lecture," I said, rolling my eyes. "Oh and hi to you too."

"Oh yeah, hi." She hugged me again. "Am I early? Sorry if I am; like I said, I was really bored at Megan's house."

"Who's Megan?" I asked, leading her into the kitchen.

"Josh's sister. God, don't you ever pay any attention when I tell you these things?" She looked at Mikey who was now sitting on a chair at the kitchen table with a paper towel, trying to clean off the front of his shirt. "Hi."

Mikey looked up at Daisy, then at me and then back to her. "Hi?"

"Mikey, this is Daisy, the tenth dinner guest and my best friend. Daisy, this is Mikey, the guy who lives with Frank and I in his and Frank's apartment - not this one- and another one of my best friends," I introduced them, causing Mikey to blush. "Mikey's brother, Gerard, was going to be here tonight but Ray, another friend, is in hospital so he's staying there with Ray."

Daisy was looking at Mikey with a curious expression, obviously trying to remember something. "So ... are you the bass player or drummer?"

"Right," I turned to Mikey to explain, "I made her listen to your albums when you guys were on tour and I was staying with her."

"Um okay. I play bass."

Frank arrived soon after, to Daisy's delight, a couple of minutes before Linda, my parents and grandparents, and Frank's cousin, Arabella showed up. After I spent five minutes in the kitchen scraping off the top layer of the stew like Mikey had suggested, while everyone else talked in the tiny living area, the meal didn't go as badly as I'd expected. Of course, there were Mom's mumbled complaints every so often but everyone pretended not to notice.

It wasn't until Linda cleared her throat and mentioned that she and Mom were going to move the wedding up a week sooner that Frank and I both choked on the olives from our martinis.

"Frank," I whispered into his ear the next morning, standing over his bed and pushing his shoulder. "Frank, come one, wake up. Stop pretending to be asleep; I know you're awake; I need to talk to you. I went for a run earlier-"

"Carrie, what're you talking about, you don't exercise anymore," Frank said, sitting up and rubbing his eyes.

I glared at him. "Okay, so I went out to get some more bagels and ice cream. That's not the point. The point is this," I threw down a tabloid into his lap and pointed somewhere near his crotch.

He hit away my hand and held up the paper, murmuring quietly to himself, "Hey look, we made page 4," he kept on reading. "Shit... When did this happen?"

I nodded. They'd printed a huge picture of us outside the last location I'd been on for a shoot and a small article about our wedding and the 'speculation surrounding it's date'.

"I know. How do they find out about this stuff so quickly?"

"I don't know but what are we going to do? I don't want to get married in front of all of Jersey and the half of New York that could be bothered to travel for it. But what could we do? I mean, it's not like we could elope or anything. Your mom- Carrie, why are you looking at me like that?"

"Why couldn't we elope?"

"Well, firstly, there's this woman who is your mom and, well, she hates me enough already as it is. And then there are the plans everyone's made for the wedding-"

"We wouldn't need those plans if we went out of state, I don't know, to Las Vegas or something, and eloped. Then no one would know and there wouldn't be this huge fuss over everything."

"But I thought you liked the huge fuss?"

"No," I answered, pouting at him. "I'd like it much better if we just got it over with."

"Yeah me too but-"

"No, not buts. We should just do it!" I bit my lip and looked at Frank who was staring at the blankets. "What do you think?"

"Are you sure?"

"Only if you want to."

"I want to but only if you're sure."

"You're going to make me decide this aren't you?" He nodded. I shrugged, grinning, "Fine, let's do it!"
