i really, really liked all the british series i've watched (though not many), so i was looking for new ones (to me) to start watching. so since i'm getting obsessed with Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., and with Iain De Caestecker being cute and all, i decided to start watching "The Fades". i already knew it was a one season show, so i thought: "how bad can it be?".
i was wrong. it was really bad! i mean: no, the show is fucking amazing, but... it ended so... wrong! i mean: the ending was brilliant but the show was never renewed so no more Fades for me, or any of us, for that matter. like: why. why do you hate us, BBC?!
anyhow: the premise of the show is good from the start: "A teenage boy (Paul) is haunted by apocalyptic dreams that nobody can explain. As if that weren't terrifying enough, he begins to see spirits of the dead, known as "The Fades", all around him. The Fades can't be seen, smelt, heard or touched by other humans. When an embittered and vengeful Fade finds a way to be human again, it's up to Paul [De Caestecker] to stop him -and all of the dead- from breaking back into the world and destroying the human race."
i mean: come on. look me in the eye and tell me you wouldn't watch the whole season, episode after episode in one single afternoon. and they cry about the show not being renewed, of course.
the show is basically "Ghost Whisperer" meets "Constantine", but not really. you'll get the mash-up when you watch the show. only it's all about the human component of the characters, as it is in every british show ever made.
they present it as horror/thriller/we'regonnascarethecrapoutofyou and then they turn it into drama without you even noticing it! and i FUCKING LOVE that about british shows. it's the best part. and there's comedy too: all the 'previously's start off with Mac (played by Daniel Kaluuya), Paul's best friend, pretty much vlogging about what happend in the previous episodes. that was interesting, and fucking awesome.
also: how cute is Iain De Caestecker?
just look at him with one hand in his pant's pocket and the other one in his jacket's pocket, i mean: who does that?! (i love him). check out this face:
also: this guy is pretty badass (Neil, played by Johnny Harris)
he's sorta The Fades guru. and he kicks ass. his last name is Valentine. yep, we've got a little bit "Resident Evil" thrown there, too.
without further adieu: i'm not saying it's a must-watch, but... if you have the time it's a really good show. six episodes, and hour long each. it's not much time wasted if you don't like it. but i assure you, you will.
