The Used - Imaginary Enemy (album review... sort of)

fucking.
amazing.

i love the cover. it makes so much sense to the album.
i have no other words. truly. these guys have never disapointed me. like: no fucking ever. i've been a fan of The Used since 2005. like, literaly almost ten years now. and they haven't put out a song that i didn't like, or even a song that i'd say: "mmm... this is not really like them. i'm not sure about this song". i love their music so much. so... here goes a rough track-by-track review. only about the music. maybe a little lyricwise, but it won't be a deep analysis.

01. Revolution.
typical The Used song. and i love every single fucking second of it.

02. Cry.
"if your gonna take me back you're gonna have to ask nicer than that". need i say more? i didn't think so.

03. El-Oh-Vee-Ee.
cute. it's a cute song. it starts off like: "ok...? am i listening to the same band...?". and then it builds up to the bridge. fucking awesome.

04. A Song To Stifle Imperial Progression (A Work in Progress).
thirty seconds in i'm already back in 2002. my body is ready.
(lyrics, from what i got, kinda reminded me of "Wretches & Kings" from Linkin Park, in a good way. still, i could be wrong.)

05. Generation Throwaway.
i have nothing to say about this song.

06. Make Believe.
it sounds like 2005, but not 2005 The Used. it sounds like it belongs to that year (or couple of years it's more like it), you know? that 2001-2007 period? back to when bands that were just starting sounding hecka amazing? sounds like that.

07. Evolution.
omg! omg! omg! it's like "Light With A Sharpened Edge" all over again! after ten years! YES! i love, love, love that song. and i love, love, love this song! ♥

08. Imaginary Enemy.
ok. first impression: "wow! this is different!" -> a good different, by the way.
i like it. a lot. but i'd like it to be stronger. heavier, i mean. i don't know if i'm expressing myself correctly, like, lots more of overdriven guitars and screaming. but, of course, i know nothing of music and it's just my opinion.

09. Kenna Song
this sound like it belongs to 30 Seconds To Mars' album "This Is War". i love that album. so, yes. more of this, please.

10. Force Without Violence.
again. i need it to be more aggressive. but it's a nice song. i really like it. lyrics are strong enough to cover for it. whatever that means. i love, love the end of this song.

11. Overdose
ok. i'm listening "Smother Me" here, all over the place. and i'm kinda diggin' it. more than i thought i would. it's so weird. i love the pre-chorus melody.

*Hidden Track*
they've hid a track after "Overdose". you, sorry sons of bitches... how i love you.
i've no idea what happened that they got so political. but i kinda like it.

overall review:

alright. so, what always happened to me was that the "next" The Used album was so much better than the last one (to me, obviously). but this time, i actually liked "Vulnerable" better. yet, at least. i only listened to it once, cut me some slack (?). it's definitely way more layed back than their previous albums, musically speaking. they eased down the anger a little bit. i like that. The Used is a band that's constantly growing up, musically, but they still the same someway. as musicians they definitely stay so fucking true to themselves, to who they are, and how they want to express themselves artistically. yes, i may have not like this album as much as i did the last one, but... i still really need it to be april, 1st, al-fucking-ready. in the mean time, here's their video for "Cry".

it has nothing to do with the music, but Bert looks so dang sexy in this video.

xo-

~ My Chemical Romance is done. But it can never die. Because it is not a band- it is an idea. ~
